Porterville, California, is a small city. It’s not even a city. It’s a small town in the small county of Tulare. It is located in Northern California and is a tight-knit community. Porterville has a main street. Three fire stations. One police station. One library. Only a few outsides of the county had heard of Porterville.

At least only on February 18, 2020.

On that day, a lot of things changed. My life changed. My family’s life changed. Many people’s lives changed. This small town changed.

Out of this small collection of people, a profound story is being told, touching the hearts and minds of people worldwide.

The Cause: Save Lives

I realized the impact of my brother’s death the day an International news agency picked up the story of his death. When I came upon USA Today reporting on the Porterville library fire and the deaths of my brother, Firefighter Patrick Jones, and Captain Ray Figueroa, I could see just how big a reach my brother would have in death.

It’s still hard to say that my youngest brother, best friend, and virtual twin are gone.

But his passing would be more challenging if I didn’t know the impact he has had through the network of friends, family, and firefighters and now will have through this book. The prime reason I wrote this book is to extend Patrick’s desire to save lives.
